Restoration of Frescoes and Wall Paintings

Restoration of Decorated Wooden Ceilings

I have always been passionate about art, painting and decoration, and have dedicated my studies first, and my professional activity later, to the care and restoration of frescoes, wall paintings and decoration. I have been enrolled in the Register of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage for more than ten years. A graduate in Restoration of Frescoes and Stone Materials at the Institute for Art and Restoration Palazzo Spinelli in Florence, I have then collaborated with organisations, specialised companies and carried out interventions for private individuals, dedicating myself to all the phases necessary to restore ancient wall paintings to their authentic splendour: study of the work, analysis of the state of conservation and degradation, diagnostic investigations for the evaluation of the best method of intervention, cleaning, consolidation of the paint film, plastering, through interventions that always respect the most qualified and consolidated techniques.

Restoration of 19th century frescoes

The sail-shaped ceiling was entirely covered with several layers of paint that had been applied over time. First, the surface was desalted, revealing the original 19th-century decoration. Next, the paint layer was carefully and respectfully cleaned, as it was mostly blackened with lampblack, dust and loose particles. The gaps were treated and restored with ad hoc lime-based mortars; finally, the pictorial reintegration of the missing parts was carried out using pure mineral pigments, in full compliance with the rules of conservative restoration.
